After over 125 years of publication Broken Hill’s remaining newspaper The Barrier Truth (previously the Barrier Daily Truth) ceased publication in April 2024.

​

A number of Broken Hill business owners who also had business operation in Mildura contacted the Directors of ENG Media to see if they would be interested in producing a publication for the Broken Hill market of 17,500.

​

After a number of meetings with the Broken Hill City Council and business owners in Broken Hill, it was decided that there was enough commercial support to the production of a newspaper and website.

​

After sourcing staff, an announcement was made in September 2024 that the first edition of the Broken Hill Times would be published on Friday, October 25, 2024, and weekly thereafter.

 

Profile

Broken Hill, Australia's first Heritage Listed City, started life as a small mining village in the 1880s.

​

As the birthplace of BHP, home to the Brushmen of the Bush, and the spiritual forge of the Australian union movement, Broken Hill is an eclectic blend of arts, culture, industry, and heritage.

​

The city celebrated its past on Tuesday 20 January 2015 by becoming the first city in Australia to be heritage listed, and is now pioneering the future as it evolves into a technologically enhanced smart community.

​

Broken Hill is poised to undergo an impressive and explosive period of growth, one that the Community is ready to receive. There are an anticipated 2,200 new jobs in mining being created by 2027.

 

Broken Hill and surrounds currently has a population of just over 17,500 people.
